Especially considering they sell the non electric version for half the price. There is not $3000 worth of motor and battery in there. I'm just wondering technically how you would DIY.
That steering mechanism is so suspect compared to a steering rod. That's a heavy bike, and fully loaded it can easily be around 350lbs. Can you really trust break cable pulleys as a steering mechanism as everyday use? Surprised there hasn't been a recall for this bike.
The cables are redundant, off-the-shelf, and save a significant amount of weight. The increase in serviceability and load capacity is well worth the marginal robustness of a rod that, if broken, would require waiting on a custom part being shipped from California.
This is my future bike
It's hard to understand the $6k price tag when you can get a Triobike or Bullitt for and put a 1,000 watt motor and battery on it for $3,500...
